AFL London Best and Fairest

All

Last Wednesday ALF London held its best player of the year award presentation.  The Hawks were hoping that a few players would feature close to the top 10 but held high hopes of anyone winning or coming close. With the season we've had it would have been very easy for the umpires to notice our best players but also give some sympathy votes for simply being the nicest blokes on the planet.

It was a fantastic start with veteran Katsy opening up the account with 3 votes in what was a wet and tough game of footy against the Lions.  We then travelled to Wildcat land where we were thumped and there was little hope of the Hawks getting any votes in this game. Unfortunately that was the case.
In round 3 against Putney we found ourselves in a similar situation and discovered that sometimes being NICE gets you somewhere and on this occasion Choco with his strong performance in the back line notched up 2 votes.  Our next game was probably our best game of the year. Unfortunately, we let it slip in the last qtr but our hard work did not go unnoticed with Jeremy Ward and Superstar Coach Choco receiving 2 and 3 votes respectively.

Choco was sharing the lead as we went into Round 5 against the demons.  With only one bad qtr the hawks did well and kept up with the opposition and once again Choco received votes for the Hawks. With Choco now on 7, Katsy on 3 and Wardy on 2 the massive crew of hawkers on site were beginning to get excited.

Ross’s 10 gay Commandments slam it home to take Connect 4 WC and Trivia Championship 2010!

Post match beers flowed easily and early for some, as The Hawks watch the sun set on another glorious day at Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Grounds.  With the last rays of the day fading away, the crowd started to build, trivia aficionado’s from every corner of the globe going through their mental warm up routines.

It has to be said that there was a great turn out of fresh faces down to the nest to experience Hawker hospitality at its best and the night was soon underway with seven teams in the race to claim the title of Wimbledon Hawks Trivia Champions for 2010.  With so many new faces around the air of expected victory from Suess’s table could be seen to visibly dissipate at roughly the same speed at which the beer’s were emptied – could the veteran be about to throw in his trivia crown in this his final (well final for the 5th time) season at Wimbledon?

2010 Season Review

The Wimbledon Hawks began the season flying high and full of expectation. We had a great off season social fixture which included a footy trip to Romania, massive AFL Grand Final day and Christmas Party. Added to this was the Annual General Meeting which was extremely well attended with all the boys keen to get behind the club for the season to come.

Choco was appointed as the new Coach and preseason started with vigour in February. A few sad goodbyes as past Hawkers wished us well on their departure and made way for new faces at the club. The pre-season footy trip to Manchester to compete in a tournament there was a great trip and the new boys gelled well and the Hawks brought home the silverware after winning all four games!
