Wimbledon Hawks AGM 2011 (and 11-a-side friendly)
In a cunning ruse to get good numbers at the AGM, the Hawks held a soccer day followed by beers and the AGM on Sunday November 13. An EU versus Aussie game was always going to get the competitive juices flowing and when veteran Aussie Dr. Seuss put over goal the EU boys knew they had a fight on their hands. But fight they did and the well drilled Northern Hemispherians eventually got the better of the Aussie ankle hackers piling on late goals. Plenty of great goals and even more skill errors for the day as the boys had a good run around for 90 minutes.
The 30 strong Hawkers crew (minus Shane who went home to post his goal exploits on Facebook instead of coming to the meeting!) then trudged slowly over to the pub, where the year past was reviewed and the plans for 2012 were laid out. Roles and responsibilities were discussed and excited new Hawkers were voted onto a committee who has always worked hard to provide the Hawker Fraternity (and Sorority!) with a good run around on field and of course plenty of off field events.
In a fantastic development for the club, Ross Ashman, star in last year’s Great Britain squad was voted in as club President taking over from long time president Katsy who has served the Hawks well for a number of years. This EU presidency, along with countless other EU delegates demonstrates the club’s ongoing efforts to grow the game amongst the local European community (as well as the Aussies desire to shirk any responsibility!). We wish them all the best and pledge our support in making 2012 a greatly successful year for the Wimbledon Hawks.
