Who is welcome to join the club?
The Hawks welcome players and supporters of all nationalities, fitness, size and skill. Whether you have the ability to coach the team or just have a social kick, the Hawks are the club for you. With the Hawks organising plenty of social events, pub crawls, quiz nights, end of season and midseason trips to locations such as Spain, Sweden, Germany and Portugal, you really can't go wrong socially either.
Where can I purchase football boots and a mouth guard?
You can buy boots and a mouth guard from most good sports stores (e.g. Sports Direct). Since we play in the UK summer, moulded or “blades” boots are recommended because of the firm ground conditions.
Do you organise football trips?
Absolutely! We have been to Sweden, Portugal, Spain (including Ibiza), and Germany, just to name a few locations. We typically chase the sun and the sand. We also have Preseason and Midseason trips. How seriously do the Hawks take playing football? I don’t want to train every night!
The Hawks are not just a bunch of Aussies sitting at the pub all day spending our 2 years in the UK in one spot. You should travel and enjoy yourself and football should be fun and not a chore. If you can’t get to training because of work or travel, we still want you involved. Football is an outlet, not the reason you are in London so come and join in. Training is not compulsory but most of the boys want to keep fit and it is always fun so they attend where they can. Come down to see for yourself and you will embrace the Hawks way of thinking. We are highly competitive but we understand football is not the “be all and end all” of life in London. We just also happen to have a great time off the field.
How much does it cost to play for the Hawks?
Membership costs £60 for the whole season which includes a Hawks t-shirt. The club is non-profit and we put everything we can back into the players and the wider Hawks community.
What is the standard of play like?
There are some good players running around, and some beginners. The standard of play is not what you might be used to back home, but it is still decent. In the Premiership division, at least half the players must be European so that means there are nearly always beginners that have not played many, if any, games and are keen to learn the great game. The Hawks family comes from all over the world including England, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, Holland, Australia and South Africa. The club won the premiership in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1998, and were runners up in 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001 & 1997. The second team, the Balham Hawks, play in the Social division.
